4th/5th class were working as scientists this week testing items for the presence of starch. Starch is an important carbohydrate that is found in plants. Starch is created through the process of photosynthesis. Starch reacts with iodine to produce a blue/black colour. Therefore, iodine can be used as an 'indicator', i.e. to test if starch is present in something. Have a look at how the boys got on
